The idea about Maritime Innovation Centre has been initiated already in 2006. In December 2008 the Memorandum of Understanding between Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the City of Šibenik and former Trade and Investment Agency was signed convey partners readiness to realize the project of establishing a Croatian - Norwegian Maritime Innovation Centre, located in Šibenik.The main objective of the project was defined as establishing of the linkages between Croatian and Norwegian partners and creation co-operation on the development projects related to innovation, business development and commissioned research.
The Norwegian partners have established a Croatian company – CroNoMar in order to carry out the activities of the project in Croatia and to actively participate in further development of Croatian marine maritime activities.
In summer 2012, the Innovation Incubator of Maritime Innovation Centre - iNavis was opened. The Innovation Incubator is under CroNoMar-s management. The Centre has the capacity of hosting and supporting Croatian-Norwegian commercial and institutional co-operation while creating an attractive business premises for business start-ups and development projects in the Marine and Maritime sector.
From the very beginning until today, the pat that was set up in the Memorandum of Understanding has been followed, providing Co-location of Businesses, Services and Innovation Activities and the idea has become a reality!
CroNoMar is on daily basics assisting tenant companies to develop into successful businesses;taking care of startups and working on developing projects helping them to grow into a quality business companies. All tenants are able to share all other services needed for running and maintaining daily businesses (IT, maintenance, supply, etc..).
The results after first year - 80 % of the area is occupied and 2 tenant companies have signed a contract with Norwegian partners! The incubator tenants are different companies from the marine and maritime sector like naval architect office, hydro engineering – diving, seafarers, maritime equipment distributor, etc. together with service providers with “at site” service, all together forming the unique offer within marine and maritime sector in Croatia.
After one year of successful start, Innovation incubator is heading full speed ahead and the iNavis Centre is growing into the region's and Croatian leading Marine/Maritime Centre.
