Terje Andreassen – direktor of Moen Marin AS
Zdenko Jerković, djelatnik Cronomar-a.

New deliveries from Tehnomont opens route to new markets and customers

This June, in collaboration with company CroNoMar a 2nd vessel will be delivered from Pula shipyard Tehnomont for a Norwegian client. It is a service vessel which will be used on fish farms in Norway. Although the basic design was made by a Norwegian company, it is the quality, competitiveness, professionalism and experience of Croatian shipbuilders that were the key for getting the new contracts. Just to remind us, the first vessel of similar characteristics was built and delivered in the summer of 2015, and has been successfully presented at the largest aquaculture fair in the world enabling Tehnomont access to the new markets and new customers which in the end resulted with two new contracts.

Just in time of recession and at the moments when the economy is in Croatia faced a series of problems, and is recording a negative trends, the Norwegian clients being very pleased with the quality and also the approach to the project in this way have given full confidence to the Croatian shipyard thus creating a foundation for long-term cooperation.

In comparison with the first delivered vessel, new ordered products – vessels in 23,98m length and 11.20m width, height up to the main deck of 4.2m and 3.5m of draught, have been significantly improved in their characteristics especially from the technical -technological aspect increasing the value of the final product, which was a new challenge for the manufacturer.

Each Equipped with two Palfinger crane, capacity of 60 and 90 tm produced in Croatia, Caterpillar engines of 1000 hp, special equipment for monitoring the underwater works remotely controlled underwater vehicle (ROV- Remotely operated underwater vehicle) with cameras and lighting, deck which enables transporting and handling pf 5 container in size of 20feet, pumps for the fuel delivery  and drinking water, the mentioned vessels  will supply the fish farms with everything they need, as well as carry out all works related to their usage, maintenance and servicing. In accordance with strict Norwegian regulations, vessels performing work on anchoring and towing must be equipped with special equipment for anchor chains and steelropes for towing, including their control, tighten and release in case of emergency. Equipped with modern navigation and communication systems, with its speed of 11 knots, long radius of navigation and comfortable accommodations for 6 crew members, these service vessels manufactured in Croatia will support work on fish farms that are located significantly far away from the Norwegian coast, and thus represent up to now already recognized a successful product of Croatian shipbuilding.

In addition to the general characteristics that are common to the both vessels, there are a number of technical characteristics that are different for every vessel, in accordance with the wishes of the end client, which has defined that in detail with respect to the final purpose of the use of these vessels.

Delivery of the third vessel is expected during mid-summer of 2016.

Starting from the fact that Croatia is a country that wants to attract investment projects of higher added value whose business is linked to the modern technology and innovation as well as internationalization of the businesses, the whole project was started in collaboration with company CroNoMar whose main goal is to connect Croatian and Norwegian companies, identification of market needs and providing access to the new markets in order to strengthen the competitiveness and export potential of our entrepreneurs, especially small and medium-sized enterprises operating in the maritime sector in Croatia. This innovative company was established in 2009 and since then it helps entrepreneurs from the region and entire Croatian on the way towards the foreign markets, and is successfully identifying and creating new business opportunities for the further breakthrough of quality Croatian products on the world scene.

Having in mind that the competitive advantage of Norway is the ability to enter new markets by developing new products and services, the role of CroNoMar in terms of transfer of knowledge and experience from Norway, gets another dimension and importance for all Croatian companies.

Extremely successful work of CroNoMar is visible through projects of connecting Croatian and Norwegian maritime industry, building aluminium catamarans and other vessels, establishment of the Maritime Innovation Centre - iNavis in Sibenik, export of marine equipment from Croatian manufacturers to Norwegian and China markets, and many others. Seen in numbers, the expected value of projects realized through mediation of CroNoMar in 2016 will be over 100 million HRK of export value achieved in 2015.

CroNoMar's young team led by Malvin Villabo is successfully sailing under full sails ahead!

These examples of successful cooperation show that on the international market there is room for everybody who can offer a competitive product or service of high added value with guarantee of quality. In addition to linking partners which are participating on this project, CroNoMar on behalf of the Norwegian client performs supervision of building, which is another confirmation of the quality of Croatian experts and trust of the Norwegian client, thus creating the foundation for new cooperation’s. Precisely this type of partnerships isprerequisite for economic growth, are ensuring the production growth, new investments, and new, well-paid jobs.

Tomislav Smirčić, sales director of Tehnomont
The second ship in the series, the 24 m working vessel for the work on fish farms represents a further step forward for Tehnomont - Shipyard Pula for the area of sophisticated vessels. Mentioned vessel, although smaller in size, carries a variety of equipment on which a lot bigger vessel would envy.

Although all this equipment, hydraulic and electrical is purchased outside Croatian (since there are no domestic producers for it) it contains a large proportion of local knowledge and local supporting materials and products necessary for their installation and operation.

By this Tehnomont - Shipyard Pula ensures a high level of added value and its competitiveness on the European market.

Also Tehnomontov success in the design and construction of fast aluminium vessels has to be emphasised. So far more than 30 aluminium vessels of various sizes, for several European clients, as well as several local have been delivered. At this point in Tehnomont facility a 25 m high speed patrol boat for the Police is being built. This is the third vessel in role that Tehnomont is building according to the design Cammarc from UK. His predecessors were built for the needs of Croatian and Gibraltar police and have showed exceptional performances.

With the building steel and aluminium boats for various European clients, Tehnomont is successfully competing with other European shipyards and is providing high added value with the guarantee of quality as proof that Croatian shipbuilders know their job.

Terje Andreassen, CEO of Moen Marin AS
New contracts following the successful delivery and presentation of the first vessel in 2015 show how Norwegian customers are satisfied with the quality of the product. The Pula shipyard Tehnomont has once again shown in the best way the professionalism, quality and competitiveness of Croatian products on the demanding Norwegian market. Our wish is that the vessels that are to be delivered this summer contribute to creation of new contracts. Also, I want to highlight the importance of the company Cronomar without whose mediation this project would not have been realized, as well as the importance of the building supervision which in our behalf is conducted by Mr Zdenko Jerkovic, employee of Cronomar.
