Croatian – Norwegian Maritime Innovation Centre in Sibenik  / iNavis

The purpose of the project is to contribute to the creation of a favourable and recognizable environment for co-operation by increasing the interaction between Norwegian and Croatian institutions and businesses in the maritime sector where City of Sibenik can in future define itself as a city with an attractive Maritime Business Innovation Centre in a global maritime world.

With realization of this project companies in the field of shipbuilding, transport, energy, engines, ICT technologies in maritime aspect, innovations, research of sea and undersea world and other activities related to the sea will be gathered at one place. Centre will provide advising, institutional and financial support and will actively participate in conducting and realization of different projects. For that purpose a building within former military campus has been given by Republic of Croatia to the City of Sibenik for further management.

The Centre infrastructure will be divided as follows:

  • 50 % occupied by commercial companies, creating new development activities for new products, services, etc.
  • 25 % for service providers – internal market where tenants get services what they need “at hand” (accounting, ICT, PR, Legal, etc.) along with support conference and meeting infrastructure
  • 25 % innovation area – CroNoMar; providing support for innovative ideas,  start up phase, business development , networking, courses, market perspective, financing, etc.
  • Building refurbishment has been divided in 3 Phases. Presently, Phase 1 of the refurbishment is in finalization where some 20 offices along with support infrastructure will be available for tenants. Expected date for opening of the Phase 1 of the Centre is primo July 2012.

First phase of the Centre will be oriented to innovation activities under management of CroNoMar where CroNoMar will focus on creating attractive, supportive business environment and infrastructure for development of new business activities/models, products and services by providing Norwegian scientific, technical support and assistance, including access to Norwegian industry and markets.

CroNoMar`s objective is conversion of deal flow of business opportunities into real and prosperous new innovative products, services, sustainable business models and companies.

The full functionality of CroNoMar will be operated within iNavis as a business consultancy and innovation service available to whole Croatia in the marine/maritime sector.

The whole concept has been well accepted by market (future tenants). As result, CroNoMar has got signed letters of interest for 2/3 of the area.

Concrete results and benefits from joint cooperation on Maritime Innovation Centre iNavis are already visible through work of CroNoMar within different projects like building fishing vessels for Norwegian aquaculture sector at NCP shipyard in Sibenik, building leisure boats at Sas Vektor in Zadar and Ad Boats in Solin where results are calculated all together in more than 30 mill kn of export value. With these great results CroNoMar is “sailing” with full speed ahead in order to create many more concrete results and successful projects.
