Few weeks ago, the “Eemslift Hendrika”, a yacht transport cargo vessel was on its way to destination in Norway and has ended up in a bad storm with 15-20m high waves. At one point the crew has sent a distress signal because the vessel lost stability in the Norwegian Sea approximately 60 nautical miles west of Ålesund. Crew members were evacuated with helicopter over fears the ship could sink.
Due to the terrible storm AQS Tor, 24 meter long service vessel, which was a deck cargo, was torn off the cargo deck. The ship broke all fastening remedies on the cargo Vessel and rushed into the sea on its own. No-one saw what and how it happened during the dark night. Despite a somewhat «early launch» the newbuidling has showed strong seaworthiness without crew on board and next morning AQS Tor was floating and behaved perfectly on its own in the stormy sea. E. Hendrika had cargo both above and below the deck. Dutch firm SMIT Salvage was hired for the salvage and a salvage team was successful.
Now after the situation is under control, the web site “iLaks” made a competition for the toughest Service Vessel in the Fish Farming Sector in Norway. The competition was won by AQS-Tor. AQS Tor was brand new vessel few weeks ago delivered from shipyard Tehnomont in Croatia through mediation of company CroNoMar and was under transport to client in Norway as Deck-Cargo on a cargo vessel.
